FORMULA-R SPECIFICATIONS Formula-R is a category designed to provide a place for "Classic" F3 and F2 chassis to race together with fair rules, parity and reduced expenditure. Australian Formula 2 ( Aluminum Chassis, Pre 1990 ) As per original specs Carburetor 1600cc SOHC @ 8500 rpm, Min weight 500kg Alternatively *Carburetor 2000cc @ 7000 rpm, Min weight 500kg Post 1990 F2 chassis add 25kg if fitted with 2000cc engine. Australian Formula 3 ( Carbon Fiber, 1990 - 2001 ) Fuel injected 2000cc - 26mm restrictor @ 6750 rpm, Min weight 550kg Fuel injected 2000cc - 24mm restrictor @ 6750 rpm, Min weight 500kg Alternatively *Carburetor 2000cc @ 7000 rpm, Min weight 550kg The intention is to allow engine/chassis options that give
owners leeway to use cost effective engines in place of more expensive legacy designs. For example, either a F2 or F3 chassis can be equipped with 2000cc production engine utilising carburetors for reduced cost and complexity. Chassis Min weights are used to help balance the aerodynamic advantage of post 1990 chassis and/or power considerations. * 2000cc Carburetor engine ( Absolutely no EFI )
Engine must be a 4cyl, inline design as used in a production car. Cylinder Head must be unmodified, retain standard hydraulic lifters and standard valves ( both stem and flange ) Can be SOHC or DOHC No variable cam timing. No variable ignition system. Camshaft profile is free. Limited to 7000 RPM via rev limiter device. Click here for rev limiter info CHASSISAluminium or carbon fibre construction allowed, titanium components prohibited. No traction control, anti skid braking system or combination allowed. Must be rear wheel drive only (no 4wd). No active suspensions. Ground Effects on Australian Formula 2 cars are allowed (original trim). TYRES The maximum allowance for tyres is 1 new set per round. This includes practice, qualifying and races. Chassis predating 1990 - AF2 control Dunlop Front: 195/490 Rear: 230/550. Chassis 1990 onwards - Current control Formula 3 Kumho radial tyres only. Communications/Telemetry Data and or voice signals between car and pits/track is prohibited. Dorian timers exempt. On board TV camera exempt. Fuel Permissable fuels allowed include: BP racing 100 octane Aviation Fuel ( 100 - 110 octane) Any "pump premium" fuel ET Racing fuel ELF Fuel F2R Racing fuel Championship points
This category features a unique points system. It rewards all competitors who make it out to the grid. For example if 10 cars are on the grid, then first place receives 10 points and 10th place receives 1 point (even if DNF). THE RULES will be enforced !! Anyone caught breaking the rules will, depending on the severity of the infraction will get a warning and could face losing all their championship points. Not submitting to verification of an issue will be deemed to be an admission of guilt. Ofences will be POSTED on this website! Don't find yourself publicly listed as a cheat.
