Round 3 - Race report Oran Park 1/6/09 A memorable round took place which was marred by controversy and contact. Qualifying session saw a collision in pit lane exit as some sports drivers worked on their practice starts despite being specifically told at drivers briefing not to do so. Race 1 got underway from the start line with Sam Power and Glenn Lynch making excellent progress, each gaining 6 places before turn 1. The bunch at turn 1 led by sports had multiple spins. Sports No 53 drove completely over the front of Sam Power shunting him sideways into a spin that propelled Power into Lynch. Both Gordon Hardy and David Choon retired without damage to avoid further carnage. Glenn Lynch was forced to retire for the weekend while RMS worked through the night to repair Sam Power's No4. Saturday's mayhem saw the clerk of course fine one sports driver $500 whilst another had a signature on his licence refused. Race 2 produced a much better start with no contact or collisions. Sam Power set fastest lap on wets in the slippery conditions going from back of grid to 5th place! Next in open wheeler was the quiet but persistent Robert Svidserkas in 17th followed by Russell Newell 18th. Race 3 again a trouble free start with Sam Power rocketing from 5th place on the grid to 2nd at turn 1. Decision to lower wing settings saw Sam drop back to 6th place by the chequered flag in the best weather of the weekend. Robert Sviderskas finished 18th placing with another consistent session in the Sirch. Battling a broken front roll bar had Russell Newell comein at 20th place and Gordon Hardy 21st. |
